About
Burnell Communications is about enabling people with limited resources in ways that will allow them to conduct effective communications and marketing activities. My focus is on small business, not-for-profit, and rural communities wanting to pursue specific objectives or build capacity. I understand the need for cost sustainability in all communications and marketing efforts in these settings and strive to maximize what can be achieved with limited resources.
Approach
I believe communications should reflect the values of the company, organisation, or individual they represent. They should reflect "who" you are. If you care about your local community then take the time to conduct a community relations program. On the other hand, if you are not interested in creating "green" initiatives on behalf of your company then do not go down that road.
People can detect a lack of sincerity and if an effort to build "good will" is not rooted in your true values then it will likely be met with a cynical response. Choose an approach to communications that you can see yourself doing for as long as you are active in your business and community.
Some communicators make every effort to subtract their personalities from their communications materials. This is especially true in highly - bureaucratic environments where the communicator’s efforts are strictly controlled by policy. But remember, there is always a human hand on the other side of any piece of communications or marketing work.
If you are on my site it is probably a fair indication that you are working in an environment which allows for your personality to be a part of the materials that you produce. Don't be afraid of it - embrace it (but understand it).
I like to help people to evolve into a position where they feel comfortable conducting at least a portion of their own communications activities. My work is is a reflection of my style and approach. It not only reflects my education and work experience but my personality as well. Communications is in part an art form and will reflect the artisan.
